What is “Hapéh”

Hapéh ( pronounced ha-peh) - or Rapéh - is a medicinal plant mixture, a sacred snuff, based on mapacho, which is sacred tobacco.

The plant powder is blown into the nose using a special pipe, known as a tepi. (as you see in the picture above) It is commonly used by indigenous communities in South America, particularly in Brazil, Peru, and Colombia, as a sacred medicine for healing and spiritual purposes. It is used for deep connection to the spirits, animals and Mother Nature, it is very cleansing and powerfully healing for the body, mind, and soul. Hapé is made with small leaves NOT grown for commercialization or genetically hybridized with high amounts of nicotine, thus it has none of the negative properties that commercial cigarettes have. Instead, it is grown and made in deep reverence for Mother Earth. It is a very powerful plant, that has the power to heal, and when abused and not treated with respect, can cause harm. In this way it is a plant that is very revered by the Native people, and is said to be a Grandfather medicine, full of ancient wisdom and the ability to carry our prayers into the Universe.

This sacred medicine takes days to make and is a very labor intensive process made in a ceremonial way, out of various Amazonian healing medicinal plants, leaves, trees and seeds from native lands.

Hapéh has a range of therapeutic effects, such as enhancing mental clarity and focus, boosting the immune system, alleviating physical pain, and promoting spiritual awareness and connection. It is a powerful tool for healing and transformation.

Hapéh opens up the 3rd eye and decalcifies the pineal gland which naturally hardens and calcifies with age. And…

It purifies and cleanses the sinuses and respiratory track. Can help heal sinus issues and reduce mucus.

It supports the digestive system, moves the bowels

It offers energetic protection that comes from connecting with the plant, an ally for strength, clarity, and focus.

It connects you to the Earth, is grounding, centering.

It clears negativity and stills the mind

It helps maintaining better concentration during meditation

Each type of hapé has different qualities due to the different prayers they are infused with.

We at The Freedom Tribe use different mixtures and strenghts, depending on the intentions of the group or a single person we work with.

A Hapéh ritual reminds us that we ARE Nature, it cleanses our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, allows us to practice trust in Nature’s medicines, and surrender to the clearing process.

A Hapéh ritual can be held before or after a breathwork session, for example, as it eases us into the process of surrender and allows us to experience deep connection to ourselves and “ all-that-is”, and it clears out blockages as well.

We express our gratitude to the wise women and men, who made the Hapé that we are using in our Retreats and Rituals with so much love, prayer and song.

Thank you. We are grateful.

I want to express my personal gratitude to my teachers and the medicine itself, who gave me the permission to hold and guide Hapéh rituals.

I will offer soon an educational online course and experience with Hapéh.

You will get all the information you need to start or to deepen your at-home practice.

The course will be announced in the newsletter and on or social media channels.

The biggest part of the retail price of the Rapéh we purchase goes directly back to the tribes and healers who make the medicine for us. We are supporting the preservation and protection of the Amazon region by purchasing from a direct source, helping indigenous voices to be heard more and more, and spread their wisdom, so that we can remember or own wisdom.
