What to expect from a breathwork session

The context

The two key principles of breathwork are trust   and   surrender.

The first principle is to trust the process. Breathwork is grounded in the truth that we all possess an inner guiding intelligence. This can also be understood as our intuitive knowing, the inner healer, inner radar, higher self, innate wisdom, or soul. This inner guiding intelligence always brings us the experience we need in the moment, and brings into awareness the themes we are ready to look at.

The second principle is surrender: surrendering as deeply as possible into the process, by allowing gentleness to guide us; knowing that all true power comes from within.

Before you begin your breathwork session, we will go through these principles in more detail and allow plenty of time to prepare for your experience.

The experience

In a breathwork session, many different physical or emotional expressions or blockages may show up. It’s important to remember that whatever shows up is arising for a reason - your inner guiding intelligence has brought it into awareness to be processed.

  • Sometimes sensory experiences such as tingling, changes in temperature, cramps, or physical blocks in your body show up. All of these are signs of your body processing and releasing stored tension.

  • Emotional or psychospiritual experiences can come up, such as experiencing difficult emotions that you avoid in daily life, or moving through blocks which are holding you back in life. Moving through emotions in breathwork allows for greater clarity and an ability to open up more to life.

  • Breathwork also works on more subtle levels - bringing up visions or dreamlike sequences - which hold messages about your personal life or transpersonal topics.

  • Breathwork may also bring messages from your deeper self, or the collective / universal unconscious.

Breathwork gives us time and space to look at ourselves more deeply. It is a wonderful opportunity to see what is blocking us and what we normally avoid looking at. By seeing them without judgement, and by not resisting nor bypassing them, we can let them go. Practicing breathwork is a path of freedom.

With experience, you’ll find that the breathwork process reflects life. It is a microcosm of the whole.

Why is it that our Breathwork is so extraordinarily powerful?

The breathwork you will be experiencing with us is mainly a Yin process. This means we are not pushing ourselves beyond our limits. Instead we are keeping our body relaxed and breathing deeply but not forcefully.

  • Many other forms of breathwork may want you to “work or breathe more intensely“ to make the process happen.

  • We come from a lineage which highlights the parts in us that open us up towards being receptive, open-hearted, welcoming, allowing, trusting and embracing what shows up.

  • We practice softness while still choosing courage over comfort.

  • The process is about giving ourselves the permission to release. It’s not about pushing through something.
